Canada’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Mélanie Joly to travel to Paris, France

Ottawa/CMEDIA: Mélanie Joly, Canadian Minister of Foreign Affairs, announced today that she will visit Paris, France, on February 20, 2023, a news release said.

Joly will hold a bilateral meeting with Catherine Colonna, Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs of France during her trip, to discuss Russia’s war against Ukraine as well as Canada and France’s common committment to support Ukraine as the world approaches the one-year mark since the full-scale Russian invasion.

Issues of common interest in the Indo-PacificThe ministers will also be discussed by the ministers such as the rule of law, economic growth and resilience, sustainable development and peace and security.

The ministers will also exchange perspectives on ways to further strengthen collaboration between Canada and France to supporting transatlantic security and maintaining pressure on the Russian regime for its egregious actions.  

A roundtable discussion would be hosted by Minister Joly to hear from French experts on the Indo-Pacific, European security, fragile democracies, and will highlight Canadian priorities and identify opportunities for bilateral foreign policy cooperation with France.

Building on the already strong relationship between Canada and France the relationship would demonstrate the two countries’ mutual and enduring commitment to upholding international law and defending human rights.
