Environment Canada issues extreme cold warnings to northern Ontario

Fort Severn/CMEDIA: Plunging of wind chill values northern Ontario reportedly caused Environment Canada to issue extreme cold warnings for several parts region, including: Sachigo Lake, Webequie, Fort Severn, Pickle Lake, Red Lake, Ear Falls, Pikangikum and Sioux Lookout.

Wind chills of about -50 C can be expected tonight night and into Thursday morning in some of those areas of Sachigo La ke, Webequie, Fort Severn, Pickle Lake, and Pikangikum,  said Environment Canada, while other areas to see wind chills of about -40 C during that period.

Environment Canada added that the extreme cold conditions may persist through the rest of the week.

People are being advised to watch for cold-related symptoms, including shortness of breath, chest pain, muscle pain and weakness, numbness, and colour change in fingers and toes.
