Alok’s Balarampur Chini Bridge Championship League to enter pre-quarterfinals

IBNS-CMEDIA: Strong contender Alok’s IV, comprising captain Alok Daga, Samir Basak, Pranab Roy, Sandip Dutta and Bharati Dey, topped the eight-round Swiss League with 111.20 Victory Points (VPs) to enter the pre-quarterfinals of the team event on the penultimate day of the 5th Balarampur Chini East Zone Bridge Championship at the Biswa Bangla Convention Centre in New Town on Saturday.

Alok’s IV was followed by Bangur Cement with 108.22 VPs and Tornatae with 107.78 VPs.

Deepadhar, which had been leading the field until the fifth round, finished seventh with 103.13 VPs, behind another strong team, Formidables, which secured sixth place with 103.63 VPs.

The other teams that qualified for the pre-quarterfinals were Challengers (106.24 VPs), Conquerors (104.83 VPs), Niranjan Jhunjhunwala (100.68 VPs), One Night Slam (99.77 VPs), Moh Maya (97 VPs), Delta (92.07 VPs), Crown (91.64 VPs), Yarboro (89.87 VPs), Lake My Love (88.89 VPs), Adventure (88.74 VPs) and Indian Chain (85.75 VPs).

At the end of the first of the two rounds in the pre-quarterfinals, Bangur Cement, Tornatae, Conquerors and Deepadhar were leading their respective matches against Yarboro, Delta, Lake My Love and One Night Slam by 44-12, 22-17, 32.5-20 and 34-17 International Match Points (IMPs), respectively.

In the remaining four last-16 matches, Adventure, Moh Maya, Crown and Indian Chain were ahead of their respective opponents Alok’s IV, Challengers, Formidables and Niranjan Jhunjhunwala by 33-15, 39-20, 39-17 and 32-26 IMPs, respectively.
