Washington/IBNS: Elon Musk Saturday announced that the company’s subscription service would show less advertising to users, including an ad-free tier, to address frequent and long advertisements on Twitter to improve the experience of the users on the microblogging site.

“Ads are too frequent on Twitter and too big. Taking steps to address both in coming weeks,” Musk posted to his Twitter account Saturday.

This comes amid major financial uncertainty since the world’s richest man bought the social media site and took over as its CEO.

Users willing to experience the ad-free version of Twitter can do so by opting for a higher-priced subscription.

And for those who choose it, “there will be a higher priced subscription that allows zero ads,” Musk added.

This would be a big shift in Twitter’s business model as the company has, so far, used targeted advertisement to generate revenues.

After Musk fired about half of the company’s 7,500-strong workforce late last year, advertisers have been wary of associating with Twitter.

Massive job cuts have raised concerns that the company could be too short-staffed to carry out content moderation and spooking governments and advertisers.
