From trade ties to technology: Key takeaways from Modi’s talks with UK PM Keir Starmer at the G7

IBNS-CMEDIA: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi met his British counterpart, Keir Starmer, on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in France, where the two leaders welcomed progress across all pillars of the India-UK Vision 2035 roadmap.

The discussions covered trade and economic growth, defence and security, climate action and green energy, technology and innovation, as well as education and people-to-people ties.

According to a statement issued by the Indian government, both leaders looked forward to the early implementation of the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA).

Starmer and Modi also expressed satisfaction over the growing education partnership between the two countries. They welcomed recent developments involving the University of Liverpool’s plans to establish a campus in Bengaluru, along with the University of York and the University of Bristol setting up campuses in Mumbai.

The Indian Ministry of Education recently handed over the Letter of Approval (LoA) to the University of Liverpool, paving the way for the establishment of its branch campus in Bengaluru, Karnataka.

Meanwhile, during his meeting with UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan on the sidelines of the summit, Modi reviewed progress in bilateral cooperation across key sectors, including technology, trade, investment, energy, and defence.

Modi also discussed the evolving situation in the Middle East with both leaders, amid heightened regional tensions this year stemming from the conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran, as well as the ongoing war in Ukraine.early entry into force of the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement.
