Canada and UK strengthen collaboration by signing Critical Minerals Supply Chain Dialogue

Jonathan Wilkinson, Canada’s Minister of Natural Resources, and Nusrat Ghani, United Kingdom Minister of State at the Department for Business and Trade, announced jointly today a Canada–United Kingdom (U.K.) collaboration through a Critical Minerals Supply Chain Dialogue with a focus to deepen Canada–U.K. engagement and cooperation on critical minerals supply chain. a news release said.

The dialogue was launched at the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada (PDAC) 2023 Convention, the world’s leading conference on mineral exploration.

While the dialogue prioritizes on critical mineral security of supply, it also focus on joint economic prosperity to attain high environmental, social and governance standards (ESG) and innovation throughout the value chain.

Both countries were committed to ensuring the diversity, ethnicity, fairness and transparency of the critical mineral markets from beginning to end, are committed to are diverse.

Besides being the building blocks of clean technology like solar panels and electric vehicle batteries, critical minerals are also a key ingredient for creating middle-class jobs and growing a strong, globally competitive Canadian economy in creating a generational opportunity for Canadian workers and Canadian businesses compatible with science-driven climate and nature goals.

As close allies, Having strong historical ties of collaboration and already actively pursuing international partnership projects on critical minerals, both Canada and the U.K. have developed and released their own Critical Mineral Strategies sharing similar values and goals.

While working together, Canada and the U.K. will pursue the shared objectives including promote skill-sharing and research and development, promoting and creating integrated, safe supply chains through information sharing,and driving higher ESG performance across all elements of the critical minerals supply chain, through  government communication, active promotion within our respective sectors and close cooperation in international fora.
