Suspected arrested in ‘unprovoked’ killings of international student and a 35-year-old man

Toronto/ICMEDIA: Richard Jonathan Edwin, 39 accused of two separate “unprovoked” killings of a 21-year-old international student and a 35-year-old man from Toronto.was arrested by Toronto police.

 On April 7 around 5 p.m, Kartik Vasudev, a 21-year-old international student from India, was gunned down at Sherbourne subway station.

He was rushed to the hospital but was pronounced dead a short time later.

Two days later, Elijah Eleazar Mahepath, of Toronto, was shot near the intersection of Dundas Street East and George Street, east of Jarvis Street, just before 7 p.m.

On Tuesday, April 12, 2022, at 11 a.m., in the Media Gallery of Toronto Police Headquarters, Chief of Police James Ramer joined by Staff Superintendent Lauren Pogue of Detective Operations and Detective Sergeant Terry Browne of Homicide, updated the media on arrests made in Homicides #19/2022, #20/2022, and in two separate random attacks

Police say Edwin had a cache of loaded guns within reach at the time of his arrest in a residence near Bloor Street West and Spadina Avenue on Sunday evening, after charging him with two counts of first-degree murder in their deaths.

Police believe Edwin was a “complete stranger” to both men.
