Apoorva addressing the audience On Aug15

Toronto/CMEDIA: The Consulate General of India, Toronto office celebrated in-person 75th Indian Independence Day of India yesterday at Pearson International Convention Centre, Brampton, Ontario. After two years of virtual celebration, this year’s in-person celebration witnessed a large enthusiastic Indo-Canadian diaspora.

The Consul General of India, Toronto, Apoorva Srivastava greeted and wished all the Indian diaspora in India as well as abroad. In her address to the audience, she said that on this day in 1947 when India became free from colonial rule it began its journey and became one of the most prosperous nations in the world.

Guided by the ideals of self-reliance and the spirit of international partnership India created centers of excellence in technology. In these 75 years, India has made progress from agricultural production and its technology, India’s space technology from affordable healthcare, and from Ayurveda to technology and becoming an anti-super power, with the third largest start of the ecosystem in the world, and India’s largest economy taking the 5th position in the world.

Srivastava continued her speech by saying that while celebrating this event as the 75th Indian Independence Day of India, we also celebrated Azadi Ka Mahotsava and Indo-Canada Diplomatic relations as well as the major success of the Indin Heritage community in bringing harmony between growth and environment.

The fruits of India’s steady growth were evident during the recent pandemic when India emerged as a pharmacy and the vaccine maker in the world and became a self-reliant India. Today India has managed three ways of strong confident responses. It is now administered more than 2 million vaccines to protect the population of India.

The pandemic was also an opportunity for India to restructure its reforms throughout the world. India is today the fastest growing economy in the world and with its digital transformation has successfully established nearly 1.2 million internet connections. The value of the Indian digital economy will be estimated to become I billion dollars by 2025.

The growth of the digital economy has also encouraged India’s women workforce with approximately 26 percent of women amounting to more than 4 million women working in the IT sector. India is also cognizant of its global responsibility in the world of multiple distractions. A rising India with its responsible willingness to shoulder more responsibility globally in shared peace, development, and prosperity is embodied in its philosophy of perseverance considering the whole world as a family. As India serves as a non-permanent UN it will continue in its commitment to international law and multilateralism.

Next year India will also take up the presidency of G20 as we move towards what Indian Prime Minister Narender Modi reported saying Amrit Kal, the golden period between now and India’s 100th anniversary in 2047.

India cannot make a success of its journey without partners. Canada has been a friend to India for the past 75 years by being there for one another. India supplied vaccines to Canada in times of need and during the devastating Indian state of health, Canada rushed to India with ventilators. This also entails people’s participation to achieve harmony between growth and the environment and India is expected to become a 10 billion economy by a decade.

Srivastava’s speech was followed by patriotic songs, dances, entertainment, and mouth-watering refreshments.

The delicious refreshments ended the evening with festivities and delight.
