Toronto/CMEDIA: In partnership with the Province of Ontario,  the City of Toronto reportedly has supported the Taste of the Danforth, one of Canada’s largest and most beloved street festivals.

“This festival is one of Toronto’s most beloved summer traditions…to support the return of this iconic event and welcome residents and visitors back to the Danforth this August. Thank you to Minister Cho and the Government of Ontario for their investment in the return of Taste of the Danforth,” Toronto  Mayor Olivia Chow has said.

Launched first in 1993 by the Greektown on the Danforth Business Improvement Area (BIA), the festival will return to the Danforth this summer for the first time in three years — bringing renewed energy, tourism and opportunity to the Greektown neighbourhood.

Expected to draw at least one million visitors over three days from August 7 to 9, the festival offers well-known celebration of Greek food, culture and community showcasing Toronto’s cultural diversity to visitors from across Canada and around the world.

An investment of  $200,000 would be made by the City of Toronto and the Government of Ontario to support the festival’s return, helping to drive economic activity for local restaurants, retailers, hotels and tourism operators while strengthening Toronto’s visitor economy.

This joint investment reflects a shared commitment to ensuring Toronto’s festival sector remains strong and resilient, while bringing communities together to celebrate the city’s cultural richness.

Being  home to one of the most vibrant festival landscapes in North America, Toronto hoists nearly 300 festivals taking place across the city each year and contribute more than $1 billion to the national economy, while supporting local businesses, artists, cultural workers and neighbourhood main streets.

The City invested $2.57 million  through the City’s Cultural Festivals Funding Program, to support festivals in 2025 including many first-time recipients and renewed the Special Events Stabilization Initiative beyond its initial one-year pilot, providing support to 98 festivals across Toronto.

Through the Community Celebration Support Fund, the City has contributed an additional $1.7 million in support of more than 60 neighbourhood events taking place over the World Cup period.
