IBNS-CMEDIA: The Afghanistan Taliban has released an American national who was held in their captivity for two months, confirmed Washington’s former envoy to Kabul.
The released American woman was identified as Faye Hall.
She is currently under the care of Qatari officials in Kabul.
Sharing the development, Zalmay Khalilzad, who served as the US special representative for Afghanistan from 2018-2021, wrote on X: “American citizen Faye Hall, just released by the Taliban, is now in the care of our friends, the Qataris in Kabul, and will soon be on her way home. Thank you, #Qatar, for your ongoing and steadfast partnership. #USA #Afghanistan.”
She was reportedly detained along with a British couple in their seventies and their interpreter.
The British couple was identified as Barbie and Peter Reynolds. They still remain in detention.
Faye Hall is the second American citizen to be released by the Taliban administration in the past 10 days.
George Glezmann
Earlier, American citizen George Glezmann was released with the mediation of Qatar.
He was held in the war-torn nation for two years.
George Glezmann, a Delta Airlines mechanic, was detained in December 2022 when he was reportedly visiting Afghanistan as a tourist.
Faye Video
Meanwhile, a video has been shared by US President Donald Trump where Faye could be seen thanking him for ensuring her release.
“Thank you for bringing me home,” she could be heard saying in the video.
She urged him to help Afghan women who are languishing in prison.
She could be heard as saying in the video: ” All the women in the Afghan jail, they always ask me, ‘When is Trump coming?’ You, truly, they just treat you like their savior. They’re waiting for you to come and set them free.”
Trump Replies
Donald Trump responded to the video and said: “Thank you Faye — So honored with your words!”
Trump administration’s policy towards the Taliban and Afghanistan is still not clear.
The Taliban has been ruling the South Asian country after forcefully taking control of the administration after the fall of the former President Ashraf Ghani-led government in 2021.
The government toppled after the exit of the foreign forces.
Not Acceptable By Any Nation
The Afghanistan government is not accepted by any nation, though some countries like Russia, China and Turkey have kept their embassies open in Kabul.
Qatar has kept its diplomatic channels open with the Taliban administration.
