Kyiv/IBNS-CMEDIA: At least 13 people were killed and 10 others injured after a Russian drone struck a railway station in Ukraine on Thursday morning, media reports said.

The attack took place at Dnipro Railway Station, where a passenger train bound for Zaporizhzhia was stationed.

According to Ukraine’s national railway operator, the drone struck a platform where train No. 866, operating between Dnipro and Zaporizhzhia, was present at the time.

Russian drone strikes Dnipro railway station

“The enemy launched a strike using a jet-powered UAV against the railway station in Dnipro. The strike hit one of the platforms where train No. 866 (Dnipro-Zaporizhzhia) was located at the time,” Ukraine’s railway operator was quoted as saying by NDTV.

The attack reportedly targeted the railway infrastructure while the passenger train was at the station.

Zelenskyy calls for tougher sanctions on Russia

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the attack, describing it as a terrorist strike targeting ordinary commuters.

He also questioned whether the recent easing of sanctions on certain Russian oligarchs and the Russian energy sector had contributed to de-escalation, arguing that Russian attacks had continued.

“Just how many terrorist strikes has Russia carried out against our people since sanctions were lifted on certain Russian oligarchs and the Russian energy sector, rather than de-escalating?” Zelenskyy wrote on X.

Ukraine urges US, EU and G7 to act

Zelenskyy called on the United States, the European Union and the Group of Seven (G7) nations to impose stronger sanctions on Moscow and its war machinery.

“This is precisely why Ukraine has always said that just and decisive action by America and Europe is needed in response to Russian escalation – sanctions against Moscow and its war machine must not be eased for as long as this Russian war continues,” he added.
