Toronto/CMEDIA: Responding to security concerns raised by government officials about the popular social media platform, TikTok, NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh with 879,000 followers on it reportedly said Tuesday he’ll deactivate his TikTok account by the end of the day.

House of Commons administration has directed all users of House-issued devices to remove the TikTok app by March 3, a spokesperson for the Speaker of the House of Commons said.

“I have no concern at all about taking a step back from a social media platform when there are serious concerns around security, around data and privacy, not just for myself and for my own device, but the people that interact with me,” Singh told a news conference, and added,

“If it turns out that it’s a serious threat to Canadians and a serious threat to our country, then we’ve got to take the appropriate steps,” Singh was reported saying.

The ban came following a review from Canada’s chief information officer Treasury Board President Mona Fortier which “determined that [TikTok] presents an unacceptable level of risk to privacy and security,” Fortier said in a news release.

The TikTok account is also reportedly being blocked by central bank employees’ work devices.
