Patna/IBNS-CMEDIA: Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge sparked a political row on Sunday by saying “Modi ka baap bhi jayega” at a Patna event, where an exchange with an audience member led to commotion.

Kharge made the remark, which translates as “Even Modi’s father will have to go”, while addressing a programme marking the 139th birth anniversary of Dr Shri Krishna Singh, Bihar’s first chief minister.

According to media reports, a person in the audience insisted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi would not go anywhere, prompting Kharge’s response and a heated exchange that disrupted the event.

Video footage circulated by news organisations showed the incident unfolding during the Congress leader’s address.

Some reports alleged that Congress workers assaulted the person who interrupted Kharge. The circumstances of the confrontation could not be independently verified.

Kharge used the address to launch a broader attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and the Election Commission of India over alleged electoral irregularities.

Kharge targets BJP over ‘vote chori’

Kharge accused the BJP of manipulating electoral processes and alleged that the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls was being used to remove opposition supporters from voter lists.

These allegations are contested and have not been established as fact.

He called for opposition unity to defend voting rights and the Constitution, describing the struggle as a “second freedom struggle”.

Kharge also criticised the BJP and the RSS over their political ideology and made allegations concerning the Ram temple issue in Ayodhya.

BJP spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari said the remarks reflected the Congress’s frustration.

Other BJP leaders also questioned the tone of the Congress president’s attack on the Prime Minister.

The row adds to increasingly sharp exchanges between the Congress and the BJP ahead of the next round of political contests.
