IBNS-CMEDIA: Indian PM Narendra Modi on Saturday praised the Bharatiya Janata Party’s thumping victory in Delhi Assembly polls and said the victory is a result of the ‘development’ and ‘good governance’.
In his X post, Modi said: “Jana Shakti is paramount! Development wins, good governance triumphs.”
Modi said: “I bow to my dear sisters and brothers of Delhi for this resounding and historic mandate to @BJP4India. We are humbled and honoured to receive these blessings.”
Modi promised that the saffron brigade would ensure development in the national capital and improve the quality of life of people in the city.
“It is our guarantee that we will leave no stone unturned in developing Delhi, improving the overall quality of life for the people and ensuring that Delhi has a prime role to play in building a Viksit Bharat,” he said.
Paving the way for its return after 27 years, the Bharatiya Janata Party won 47 seats in the Assembly polls, ending the over-a-decade rule of the Aam Aadmi Party.
The AAP, which was aiming to return to power for the third term, managed to win only 23 seats while the Congress failed to win a single seat in the high-voltage polls.
Kejriwal accepts defeat
In a video post, Kejriwal said: “We are accepting the verdict.”
“The people’s decision is paramount,” he said.
“We want to congratulate the BJP for the victory. We hope that it will fulfil the hopes and expectations of the people,” he said.
Kejriwal said the Aam Aadm Party had tried to improve the infrastructure of Delhi during its tenure.
He said AAP will now play the role of a responsible opposition now.
Kejriwal lost the New Delhi seat on Saturday, ending his re-election attempt amid Bharatiya Janata Party’s clean sweep in the Assembly polls.
Kejriwal was defeated in the polls by former two-time BJP MP Parvesh Verma.
Congress’ Sandeep Dikshit finished third.
In 2013, Kejriwal had defeated Sandeep Sikshit’s mother and Congress veteran Sheila Dikshit, former Delhi CM, to win the seat and marked the beginning of AAP’s more than a decade-lonf rule in the national capital.
Apart from Kejriwal, former Delhi Deputy CM and senior AAP leader Manish Sisodia was defeated in Jangpura seat.
Atishi wins
The only silver lining for AAP was Atishi’s victory in the politically crucial Kalkaji seat.
She won it by defeating BJP’s Ramesh Bidhuri.
After trailing in the initial rounds, Delhi CM Atishi bounced back and won the seat.
