Gas leaks causes road closures, heavy traffic in Montreal

Montreal/CMEDIA: Several gas leaks near Sherbrooke Street and Saint-Laurent Boulevard  are being repaired by the Montreal fire department causing road closures and heavy traffic in the area.

A suspicious smell in the area, prompting an investigation was notified by the Montreal fire department around 3:35 p.m. 

The fire department reportedly said that it implemented its safety measures and there is no danger to the public. It shut off electricity in the surrounding area as a precautionary measure while work to repair the leaks is underway.

The fire department added that work to repair the leaks is expected to continue for several hours as Montreal police (SPVM) are currently on the scene assisting with traffic flow.

Sherbrooke Street is currently closed between Saint-Laurent Boulevard and Saint-Urbain Street, said police while Clarke Street is closed between Prince-Arthur Street Ouest and Sherbrooke Street.
