Melbourne (Aus)/CMEDIA: Canada’s FIFA Women’s World Cup campaign with Australia’s reported 4-0 win Monday caused Canada’s elimination from the Women’s World Cup.

The seventh-ranked Canadians who could have moved into the round of 16 by either a draw or win, soon found themselves with a loss when the crowd announced at 27,706.

The 10th-ranked Matildas wasted little time to win to be sure of moving on to the tournament’s knockout round.

In the Canadian women’s worst game in recent years with its worst finish at the Women’s World Cup since it went winless in 2011, Canada was forced to go home after three games, finishing third in a tough Group B with a 1-1-1.

Steph Catley of Australia scored the fourth and final goal making her team win the FIFA Women’s World Cup Group B match against Canada’s Jessie Fleming  at Melbourne Rectangular Stadium on Monday in Melbourne, Australia.
