Ottawa/CMEDIA: A special task force has been created by the federal government to help tackle the major delays with immigration applications and passport processing that have left Canadians frustrated.

Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said in a statement announcing the new task force, that the federal government is aware of the unacceptable delays and will continue to do everything it can to improve the delivery of the services in an efficient and timely manner.

Trudeau said that the government would be guided by the new task force to more efficiently meet the changing needs of Canadians and provide them with the high-quality services they deserve.

The new committee will be spearheaded by ten cabinet members to review how services are being delivered and identify gaps and areas for improvement.

Recommendations outlining short- and longer-term solutions would be made by the committee to reduce wait times, clear out backlogs and improve the overall quality of services provided.

In addition, external issues, such as labor shortages around the world which contribute to travel delays at home and abroad would also be monitored by the task force.
