IBNS-CMEDIA: Unidentified gunmen shot dead a retired schoolteacher in Bagh Dushkhel village in Pakistan’s Lower Dir district, prompting his family members to give police a 72-hour deadline to arrest the suspects.

According to local media reports, the victim, identified as Muhammad Shireen, was returning home after offering Maghrib prayers at a mosque when armed assailants opened fire on him.

He died on the spot, while the attackers fled the scene.

Police registered a First Information Report (FIR) against unidentified suspects following a complaint filed by the deceased’s brother, Muhammad Fazil, and his cousins, Amjad and Ilyas, Dawn reported.

The victim’s nephews, Khurshid Alam and Asim Rashid, along with other relatives, told Dawn on Thursday that Shireen had retired from his job as a schoolteacher.

The family also alleged that unidentified assailants had killed Shireen’s nephew, Siddiqullah, and his wife on December 24, 2019, but those responsible for the double murder had yet to be brought to justice.

They claimed that the latest killing could have been prevented had the perpetrators involved in the earlier murder case been arrested.

The family warned that if police failed to arrest the suspects within 72 hours, they would launch a protest outside the offices of the District Police Officer (DPO) and the deputy commissioner in Lower Dir.
