IBNS-CMEDIA: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday reiterated that dialogue and diplomacy were the way forward to resolve conflicts during his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in New Delhi ahead of the BRICS Summit.
His remarks assume significance amid the escalation in fighting between Russia and Ukraine in recent weeks.
Modi told Putin that India was ready to contribute to peace efforts and support initiatives aimed at resolving conflicts through dialogue and diplomacy.

According to an official statement issued by the Indian government, the two leaders exchanged views on key regional and global issues of mutual interest, including the conflicts in West Asia and the Black Sea region, which have affected maritime trade as well as the safety and security of Indian seafarers.

The meeting was the second between Modi and Putin this year. The two leaders had earlier met in Bishkek on the sidelines of the 26th SCO Summit on August 31, 2026.
During Friday’s meeting, the two leaders reviewed progress in bilateral cooperation across political, economic, defence, energy, space, skill mobility and people-to-people ties.
INNOPROM India
Modi and Putin welcomed Russia’s International Industrial Exhibition, INNOPROM India, which was held for the first time in India from September 9 to 11, 2026.
The two leaders underscored the importance of the exhibition in further expanding bilateral trade and industrial cooperation. They also visited the INNOPROM India exhibition and interacted with participants.
The leaders agreed to remain engaged to further strengthen the Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership between India and Russia, which continues to expand and has demonstrated resilience amid geopolitical uncertainties.
Putin also invited Modi to visit Russia for the 24th India-Russia Annual Summit, an invitation that the Prime Minister accepted.
