Directed by Dora Sara, and co-produced by Shane Boris, Ina Fichman, and Sara Dosa in 2022 and sound recordings by Patrice LeBlanc, and Gavin Fernandez, the HotDoc 2022 film ‘Fire of Love’ is a special presentation of two intrepid scientists who devote themselves to understanding the mysteries of volcanoes and unexpectedly fall in love and get married.
Their death in a volcanic explosion while unraveling the mysteries of volcanoes by capturing the most explosive imagery ever recorded does justice to the couple’s singular legacy and reveals the birth of modern volcanology through an unlikely lens of the love of its two pioneers.
Fascinated by the beauty and power of Earth’s eruptions, the scientists spent their working lives making films, giving lectures, and publishing books on volcanos with their fascinating stories.
The duo’s lifelong obsession is unveiled by the melancholy narration of Miranda July accompanying archival interviews and beautifully restored footage shot by Maurice.
Important data and measurements of minerals and gases have been yielded by their daring fieldwork on the sides of craters, calderas, and volcanos, just a few feet away from burning lava.
The Canadian premiere of this film was showcased on May 4 at Rogers Ted Cinema.
