Ottawa/CMEDIA: The launch of public consultations on Canada’s negotiations with the Americas Partnership for Economic Prosperity (APEP) was announced today by Mary Ng, Minister of International Trade, Export Promotion, Small Business and Economic Development.
“APEP can play an important role in supporting economic recovery, energy and food security, and in the strengthening of supply chains for critical minerals. Canada will work closely with the U.S. and other APEP participants to shape this initiative and to promote inclusive trade that protects the economic prosperity of participating countries in the Americas,” said Mary Ng.
U.S. President Joe Biden announced APEP in June 2022 on the margins of the Summit of the Americas.
Initiated by the United States, APEP is a new framework for cooperation across the Americas and includes 12 APEP partners with committed collaboration in strengthening regional competitiveness and supply chain resiliency to advance mutual interests as well as promote shared prosperity, and inclusive and sustainable development and investment.
APEP partners are Barbados, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Mexico, Panama, Peru, the United States and Uruguay.
The Joint Declaration on the Americas Partnership for Economic Prosperity was signed on January 27, 2023 by all participating countries of APEP.
Participation in these consultations by Canadians and interested stakeholders would be until May 9, 2023.
Submissions received from these consultations will facilitate to define Canada’s priorities in potential APEP negotiations.
