Toronto/CMEDIA: Nine people who were reportedly “clinging” to a capsized vessel near Port Credit Harbour Marina were rescued by the Peel Region Police on Saturday night.
Responding to a distress call just after 5 p.m. at the marina in Lake Ontario, Peel Regional Police’s Marine Unit officers said they found the overturned boat about 50 metres south of the Ridgetown breakwall.
Due to high winds and up to three-metre-high waves, the vessel was located in “challenging conditions,” police said and added that
all nine passengers were “safely” rescued and taken back to the marina sustaining onlyminor abrasions with no major injuries
A good Samaritan, said the Police, helped by transporting one of the nine individuals to shore before officers arrived at the scene.
The capsized boat was later found near the west side of the Credit River, Peel police said, but they did not recover the vessel citing hazardous water and weather conditions.
