Details of Toronto’s Economic Recovery Advisory Panel and the leaders who will help advise Toronto’s pandemic recovery. were announced by Toronto Mayor, John Tory earlier this week

Real-time advice on Toronto’s economic recovery and how to best position Toronto on a local, national and global scale would be provided by leaders from various sectors across the city.

The city of Toronto and its residents have been confronted by big issues but at the same time, there are big opportunities that lie ahead.

Being committed to making sure that the city of Toronto focuses on rebuilding this city, Tory wants to ensure that Torontonians come back stronger than ever from the pandemic as well as keep attracting new businesses, new jobs, and new people from across Canada and around the world to this city.

Being focused on the city of Toronto as a mayor, Tory said work will happen with the help of this new panel who is committed to achieving the same goals as I have for this city.

Tory said that the new advisory panel will help address his five key pillars as part of the City’s economic recovery including encouraging the return to office in the downtown core, attracting new businesses and talent, supporting businesses, especially small businesses, and spurring growth in all sectors in Toronto and adapting to the future and including many of the transformational changes taking place due to the pandemic.

The panel’s first meeting on August 16 will initially focus on addressing the future of work in Toronto including a discussion on the return to the office and how the working of the new hybrid and remote models work for the city, employers, and employees. A special emphasis would be laid on the downtown’s economic recovery to ensure that Toronto is adapting to these changes.

Toronto’s transformational changes brought forward by the pandemic would be helped by leaders in Toronto in guiding Torontotonians through this new phase. Helpful perspectives on the city’s future and help answer some of our more pressing questions would be provided by the expertise and knowledge of this new advisory panel.

Tory hopes that being the economic engine of Canada, Toronto’s advisory panel once convened would do everything possible to protect and achieve that.

Led by an Executive Table including Tory and Deputy Mayor Michael Thompson, the advisory panel will be chaired by Tim Hockey, Board member of Maple Leaf Foods and Mattamy Asset Management; Chair of the Board of the CivicAction Leadership Foundation; former President and CEO of TD Ameritrade.
