Inspired by the efforts of Black abolitionists, Dis/Mantle, an art exhibit, will reimagine Spadina Museum through an Afrofuturism narrative starting this Friday, August 5 until Saturday, December 31.

Included in the group show would be soundscapes, ceramics, and visual art by Canadian artists from the Afro Caribbean diaspora.

The newest installation of the award-winning Awakenings Program Dis/Mantle is a series of art projects created within Toronto History Museums by Black, Indigenous, artists of color, and the 2SLGBTQ+ community, operating under the principles of anti-oppression, anti-colonialism, and anti-racism.

The event’s social media tags are #DisMantle and #Awakenings.

The City is grateful to community partner the Toronto Raptors and media partner 106.5 ELMNT FM for their support of the Awakenings program.
