The Brooklyn Museum unveils its lineup of Jan programming for Visitors of All Ages

The Brooklyn Museum announces its lineup of January programming, including the return of its popular Salsa Party series, a Poetry Workshop and Stroller Tours exploring Monet and Venice, and a Pop-Up Performance by the Brooklyn Symphony Orchestra. 

Additional programs and special events amplify the Museum’s exhibitions and collections, serve the surrounding community, and support learning through the visual arts.   

Museum Members enjoy complimentary or discounted tickets and early access to public programs.

Drop-In Workshops: Life at Sea 

Saturdays–Sundays, January 3–4, 10, 17, and 31, 11 am–5:30 pm 

Saturday–Sunday, January 24–25, 12–4 pm

Take a deep dive into Oliver Jeffers: Life at Sea and help expand this underwater world. During these drop-in workshops, bring the family to create colorful creatures and structures. Each afternoon centers on designing new ocean life, from coral to 3D fish, to add to Life at Sea

Poetry Workshop: Monet and Venice 

Sunday, January 11, 11 am–1:30 pm  

Schapiro Wing and Cantor Gallery, 5th Floor 

Tickets are $35 and include admission to Monet and Venice

Join Brad Vogel, author of Find Me in the Feral Pockets and organizer of the NYC Poets Afloat Residencies, in a generative writing workshop inspired by Monet and Venice. Vogel draws a parallel between Brooklyn’s own Gowanus Canal and Venice’s storied waterways, providing prompts for your original writing. The workshop begins with an overview of the exhibition by Lisa Small, Senior Curator of European Art. 

A Close Look (Ages 65+): Seydou Keïta 

Tuesday, January 13, 11 am–12:30 pm 

Meet in the Rubin Pavilion, 1st Floor 

Free; registration is required. 

Older adults are invited to encounter bold yet sensitive work by Seydou Keïta, the premier studio photographer of 20th-century Africa. Witness how Keïta’s sitters in Bamako, Mali, tell a story of profound political and social transformation through their choices of backdrops, accessories, and apparel. 

Stroller Tours: Monet and Venice

Wednesdays, January 14 and 21, 10–11:15 am 

Schapiro Wing and Cantor Gallery, 5th Floor 

Tickets are $40 (per family; 1 adult, 1 child) and include Museum general admission. Adults can be added for $16 each. 

Before the Museum opens to the public, enjoy an interactive, stroller-friendly tour of Monet and Venice. Designed for children up to 24 months old, this baby-friendly program features touchable objects, songs, exploration of artworks on view, and an opportunity to connect with other adults. 

Weekend Art: Saturday Sketch Club 

Saturdays, January 17 and 31, 1–4 pm 

Schapiro Wing, 4th Floor 

Free with Museum admission

Draw inspiration from works by Malian photographer Seydou Keïta at these all-ages, drop-in programs. Create sketches based on the images and fashions on view in Seydou Keïta: A Tactile Lens

Salsa Party 

Thursday, January 22, 6–9:30 pm 

Lobby, 1st Floor 

Free; registration is encouraged. Admission is limited and first come, first served. A limited number of tickets will be available at the door. 

Celebrate the return of our Salsa Party series with a dance-filled evening hosted by Balmir Dance Society. Kick off the evening with a lesson led by professional dancers at 6 pm, followed by live music, social dancing, and performances by the borough’s best Latin dance teams. 

Teen Night: A Floating Mind 

Friday, January 23, 5–7:30 pm 

Great Hall, 1st Floor, and Beaux-Arts Court, 3rd Floor 

Free; registration is encouraged. Open to ages 14–19. 

What better way to start the new year than with 2026’s first Teen Night? This evening will center on art, mental health, and wellness. In the spirit of Monet and Venice, we’ll aim to achieve a floating mind—a state of deep relaxation. Join us to explore ways to take care of ourselves, manage stress, and set intentions and practices for our minds and bodies. The night will also feature art-making, performances, and much more!   

Pop-Up Performance: Brooklyn Symphony Orchestra
