IBNS-CMEDIA; An online friendship that blossomed into marriage turned into a nightmare for a Thai woman after she allegedly discovered that the Indian man she married already had three children from a 12-year-old marriage, media reports said.
The Thai businesswoman, identified as Upsorn, who runs a restaurant and a canteen, reportedly met Kanpur-based leather businessman Irfan through social media. Their online friendship soon developed into a romantic relationship.
Irfan later travelled to Thailand, where he gained Upsorn’s trust, and the two eventually got married in the country, according to reports.
After their marriage, Irfan allegedly began demanding Rs 60 lakh from Upsorn, citing business and other financial requirements. Upsorn claimed that she gave him nearly Rs 60 lakh over time, using money earned from her businesses as well as funds borrowed from relatives, NDTV reported.
However, Irfan allegedly cut off communication with her after receiving the money and returned to India.
On October 6, Upsorn travelled to India after reportedly being unable to contact Irfan for an extended period. She was allegedly shocked to discover that he was already married and had three children.
According to reports, Upsorn alleged that Irfan assaulted her when she demanded that he return her money.
She further alleged that Irfan asked her to convert to Islam and wear a burqa if she wanted her money back.
Upsorn subsequently approached the police, following which an FIR was registered in the case. Irfan was later arrested, according to reports.
