Sámi-Norwegian Drama Series SHUT UP (Oro Jaska) Heads to New York for 2025 International Emmy® Awards With Full Creative Team and Cast
New York, NY — November 2025 — The groundbreaking Sámi-Norwegian youth drama series SHUT UP (Oro Jaska) will travel to New York City this November for a week of media appearances, cultural programming, and official events leading up to the 53rd International Emmy® Awards, where the series is nominated for Kids: Live-Action Series. SHUT UP (Oro Jaska) marks the first drama series created by Silje Bürgin-Borch and Vegard Bjørsmo, who also stars in the show.
The series is written by Silje Bürgin-Borch, Vegard Bjørsmo, Kathrine Nedrejord and Eila Marie Engkvist Muotka. The International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences selected 64 nominees across 16 categories from a record 26 countries for the 2025 awards.
A Landmark in Indigenous and Queer Sámi Storytelling Set in a small town in the heart of Sápmi, SHUT UP (Oro Jaska) follows Elli Anne, a young Sámi woman whose life unravels after a brutal rape.
As she seeks justice within a tight-knit community, suspicion falls on Issat, a local snow-cross champion whose own hidden truth—that he is queer—threatens to implode the fragile balance of the town.
The series is heralded as the first high-quality Sámi TV drama and was developed under the principle: “Nothing about us without us.” Showrunners Bürgin-Borch and Bjørsmo assembled a writers’ room comprising young Sámi queer voices, ensuring narrative autonomy and cultural authenticity that are rarely afforded to Indigenous productions.
The series has already become a touchstone for dialogue about identity, trauma, and justice in Northern Europe. 2025 International Emmy® Week – Creative Team & Talent in New York (Nov 19–25) The SHUT UP (Oro Jaska) team will be in New York from November 19–25, 2025, participating in press engagements, cultural events, visibility opportunities, and the official International Emmy® programming.
