New Delhi/IBNS-CMEDIA: Congress MP Rahul Gandhi will on Monday kickstart his campaign for the Delhi assembly elections which are scheduled to be held next month, media reports said.

Rahul, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, will hold his first public meeting – dubbed as Jai Bheem-Jai Samvidhan rally – for the Delhi polls in East Delhi’s Seelampur.

The rally will be held at 5:30 pm.

The Congress top leader is expected to corner the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) over the alleged neglect and harm towards Dalits, minorities, OBCs, Adivasis and other marginalised groups.

The All India Congress Committee (AICC) Delhi in-charge Qazi Mohd. Nizamuddin said as quoted by Hindustan Times, “Congress will be fighting to throw out the corrupt and incompetent AAP from power, save the city from devastation, and put the capital back on the development track.

“Rahul Gandhi’s rally will set the tone and tenor of Delhi Congress’ aggressive campaigns in the assembly elections.”

The Delhi elections, which will be held on February 5, is set to have a three-cornered fight as the INDIA bloc has failed to form an alliance.

The results will be declared on February 8.

The last date for filing nominations is January 17 and withdrawing candidates is January 20.

The Delhi assembly’s term is set to expire on February 23.

AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal, who stepped down as the chief minister last year, is heavily campaigning for his party pitching in several beneficiary schemes for the residents of Delhi.

The AAP, which is aiming for a return to power for the third consecutive term, is banking on Mahila Samman Yojana and Sanjeevani Yojana.

Under the Mahila Samman Yojana, Kejriwal promises to grant Rs. 2,100 per month to all women residents of Delhi.

The Congress has launched its ‘Pyari Didi’ scheme, which promises Rs. 2,500 per month to women residents of Delhi, as a counter to the ruling AAP’s scheme.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who inaugurated a number of projects in Delhi just a few days ago, highlighted the Centre’s Ayushman Bharat scheme which is now offering free treatment to all people aged 70 or more as a promise on part of Bharatiya Janata Party [BJP].

Like several other opposition-ruled states, the Ayushman Bharat scheme is not allowed to function by Delhi’s AAP government, which is now headed by Atishi.
