Montreal archaeology and history complex, Pointe-à-Callière focuses on several centuries of history

Montreal/CMEDIA: Situated at 350 Place Royale, corner of La Commune Old Montreal (Quebec) H2Y 3Y5 in Canada, Pointe-à-Callière is a designated national archaeological and historic site and home to the very birthplace of Montréal focusing on several centuries of history, from the Indigenous period to the present day.

Inseparable from its site, the Museum owes its creation in particular to the important archaeological discoveries made in Old Montreal since the 1980s.

Inaugurated in 1992 as part of the celebrations surrounding Montreal’s 350th anniversary, Pointe-à-Callière is the only major archaeology museum in Canada also the largest and most visited of Montreal’s history museums.

Located on soils witnessing more than 1,000 years of human activity and houses, remarkable  architectural remains on the very site of Montreal’s founding.

The Museum owes its creation in particular to the important archaeological discoveries made in Old Montreal since the 1980s.

The Quebec Ministry of Culture and Communications officially designated In 1999, the Pointe à Callière site as a national historic and archaeological site.
