Stratford/CMEDIA: Free training to 500 people from underrepresented groups would be provided by Ontario’s investment of $5 million to prepare them with the necessary skills for well-paying jobs in the province’s booming automotive manufacturing sector.

Funded by Ontario’s Skills Development Fund, this project is a more than $200 million initiative supporting innovative programs connecting job seekers with the needed skills and training to find well-paying careers close to home.

Apart from providing necessary training to these participants in machine operation, assembly, quality control, and logistics, the program will also help address a critical shortage of workers in Ontario being a North American leader in auto manufacturing.

“Our government is securing game-changing investments in the province’s auto sector…training the next generation of Ontario’s automotive workers…with good-paying jobs at local businesses in immediate need of their world-class talent and expertise,” said Premiere Doug Ford in a news release.

Training, being led by the Automotive Parts Manufacturers Association (APMA) includes three-month paid job placements through APMA’s network of more than 300 small and medium-sized businesses. After the completion of the program, each participant will receive a job offer from a local employer.

Monte McNaughton, Minister of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development reported saying that this investment will not only help local manufacturers find skilled workers as well as connect job seekers to connect to appropriate employees leading to economic progress.

Featuring a combination of online and on-the-job training, the program would facilitate participants to learn critical skills, such as manufacturing essentials, project management, and troubleshooting.

Tailored to the needs of each participant and employer, each trainee would be able to receive up to $4,600 in wage subsidies.
