Ottawa/CMEDIA: International Development Week (IDW) is an annual event in Canada to highlight the engagement of individual associations and organizations with respect to their role as global citizens.

IDW would be observed this year during the week of February 6th – 12th with exciting activities for participation which for the year 2022 are likely to be mostly virtual (remote).

Each year IDW’s theme aligns with the United Nation’s (UN) Sustainable Development Goals.

Memorial’s activities are planned in coordination with the theme developed by Global Affairs Canada and through our affiliation with the Atlantic Council for International Cooperation (ACIC) and also aligned with specific goals championed by the UN.

Most events will be broadcast through Facebook Live and event information will be posted here as it is confirmed.

“As we work together to achieve a brighter future around the world, we know the importance of advancing gender equality, improving education and health outcomes, fighting climate change, and strengthening economic resilience…we are working closely with our international partners to reduce poverty and inequality…our efforts to build a world that is more peaceful, inclusive, and prosperous, the COVID-19 pandemic has put this progress at risk…As Canada continues to work with global partners in response to COVID-19, we also remain focused on the urgent work needed to tackle the climate crisis. That is why we have committed $5.3 billion in climate finance to support transformational climate action in developing countries over the coming five years…invite all Canadians to join me in thanking the many people who work hard every day to bring real change to the lives of the most vulnerable people around the world. As we ‘#GofortheGoals’, let us continue our efforts to realize the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda and Sustainable Development Goals to ensure peace and prosperity for people and the planet.” Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said in a statement today.

Harjit S. Sajjan, Minister of International Development and Minister responsible for the Pacific Economic Development Agency of Canada, also issued the following statement,

“International Development Week is an opportunity to recognize the people and organizations that contribute to eradicating poverty and building a more peaceful, inclusive, and prosperous world…remind ourselves that global challenges are also Canada’s challenges…Canada remains firmly committed to the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, including its 17 sustainable development goals..Canada’s theme for International Development Week is Go for the Goals is more important to help support the Sustainable Development Goals…Find out about the contest we are running and how you can contribute to building a more sustainable and equal future for all.
