Indian-American documentary, The Elephant  Whisperers showcases Human-animal bond

CMEDIA: Directed by documentary filmmaker Kartiki Gonsalves Oscar Nominated, 2022 Indian-American short documentary film ‘The Elephant Whisperers’ focuses on a blended family consisting of humans and an elephant.

Produced by Achin Jain, Douglas Blush, Guneet Monga, Kartiki Gonsalves, Aloke Devichand, Kartiki Gonsalves, and Douglas Blush in Sikhya Entertainment, written by Timothy A. Gonsalves and filmed in 2019 in South India, the documentary in Tamil followed an indigenous couple taking care of an orphaned baby elephant, Raghu entrusted to their care.

With immense pains to ensure that the fragile, injured infant survives and grows to be a healthy juvenile, the couple develop a strong bond with the elephant. Set in the Mudumalai National Park in South India, the documentary also highlights the natural beauty of the location by exploring the life of the tribal people in harmony with nature.

The film was world premiered on 9 November 2022 at DOC NYC Film Festival, a film festival for documentaries in the United States.

Released globally by Netflix on 8 December 2022 for streaming, the documentary was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Documentary Short Film at the 95th Academy Awards.
