IBNS-CMEDIA: Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) leader Abhijeet Dipke was detained by Delhi Police from his residence just minutes before he was scheduled to lead the ‘Lehra Do Tiranga’ rally at Central Park in Connaught Place on Friday.

According to reports, social activist Neha Bohra has also been detained.

This marks the second time Dipke has been detained this week.

He was previously detained after arriving in Delhi from Mumbai to join a protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over allegations of voter-list manipulation during the SIR) of electoral rolls.

Criticising the detention, CJP wrote on X:“Abhijeet Is Detained By Delhi Police!!!”

“This government is so scared of the youth waving the national flag!!” the satirical outfit said.

Delhi Police had denied permission for the proposed gathering at Central Park in Connaught Place on Friday afternoon.

Earlier in the day, police personnel visited the Delhi residence where Dipke is staying and served him a notice ahead of the proposed Tiranga March.

The notice stated that prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) were in force in Connaught Place.

It also cited the absence of permission for the planned rally.

Reacting to Dipke’s detention, former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed solidarity with him in a post on X.“Abhijeet Dipke has been detained for holding the Indian National Flag. Let that sink in. In Independent India, our youth are being detained for peacefully asserting their democratic rights,” she wrote.“This is nothing short of an undeclared Emergency. A government that fears dissent is now trying to intimidate an entire generation into silence. This is the conduct of a fascist regime that cannot tolerate a voice it cannot control,” Banerjee added.Expressing support for Dipke and others, she said: “Abhijeet, Ashutosh, Saurav — you represent the courage, conscience and aspirations of India’s youth. You cannot silence an entire generation by suppressing its voice.”Reaffirming her support, Banerjee added: “Your Didi stands firmly with you. No intimidation, no detention and no abuse of power can crush the spirit of democracy.”
