Toronto/CMEDIA: The City of Toronto has been named for the seventh time one of Canada’s Best Diversity Employers for 2023, a news release has said.
Organized by Mediacorp Canada Inc. this competition is in recognition of its diverse workplace, its inclusive and equitable culture, including programs for women, equity-deserving groups, people with disabilities, Indigenous Peoples and 2SLGBTQ+ individuals.
Diversity and inclusion initiatives from employers who applied for the Canada’s Top 100 Employers national competition were reviewed by Mediacorp editors to determine this year’s winners.
A shortlist compiled with the candidates’ programs was compared to those of other employers in the same field.
“I’m pleased that the Toronto Public Service exemplifies the values of our City’s motto – ‘Diversity Our Strength’…that our workforce reflects Toronto’s many diverse communities so we can better serve residents,” Deputy Mayor Jennifer McKelvie (Scarborough-Rouge Park) said in the news release.
A special Globe and Mail magazine today announced the finalists selected to represent the diversity leaders in their industry and region of Canada.
The City offers specific equity and inclusion initiatives for City employees including supporting networks for staff who share a common identity or lived experienced, mentorship programs, and recruitment strategies to foster a diverse workforce culture where employees feel respected, empowered, and valued, while working together to make a difference.
Continuing learning opportunities for staff related to equity, diversity, inclusion and reconciliation are also promoted and supported by the City.
