IBNS: Hours before the Chandraayan-3 completed its soft landing on the Moon, Tesla chief and the world’s richest man, Elon Musk, responded to a post on X (formerly Twitter) that said the cost of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO)’s mission is less than the budget of the Christopher Nolan directorial film ‘Interstellar’.

In his reaction to the post, Musk said the mission is “good for India”.

The post said that while the budget for India’s moon mission is $75 million, the makers of Interstellar – starring Matthew McConaughey – spent $165 million on the project.

In a game-changing feat in India’s space exploration, the country’s lunar mission Chandrayaan-3 successfully soft-landed on the South Polar region of the moon on Wednesday as a nation of 1.4 billion people erupted in joy and pride ending an anxious wait for the moment.

The scientists of ISRO burst into joy in the control room in Chennai, joining a proud nation, as chairman S Somanat  said: “India is now on the moon.”

According to Reuters, Chandrayaan-3 has been built on a budget of just under $75 million (around ₹ 615 crore) while an ANI report later claimed that the approved cost of Chandrayaan-3 is ₹ 250 crore (excluding launch vehicle costs).

Meanwhile, a dollar-to-rupee conversion indictaes that the cost of interstellar comes to around 1,200 crore.
