Canada reportedly needs to combine federal and provincial strategies with international diplomacy as it grapples with financial chaos amidst U.S. President-elect Donald Trump Tariff Threats

The Canadian government finds itself in turmoil after Trump threatened to impose a 25% tariff on all goods and services from Canada and Mexico to curb cross-border smuggling.

This Unpredictable diplomatic aggression has  raised critical questions about Canada’s economic and strategic responses.

Immaterial of whether Trudeau steps down or remains in power, Canada must confront the reality of tumultuous trade relationship with its largest trading partner, United States of America.

“Trump is a constant,” said Jean-Rodrigue Paré, a political science professor at the University of Ottawa.

Trump’s willingness to exploit political vulnerabilities would mean that Canada must devise a robust strategy to protect its economic interests.

If implemented, Trump’s tariffs could cause political and economic stakes for Canada in severely disrupting supply chains on both sides of the border.
