Canada announces new multifaceted support to Ukraine for its critical energy, and defence

Toronto/CMEDIA: During Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commissions official visit of to Canada, Justin Trudeaua, Canada’s Prime Minister, and Mélanie Joly, Minister of Foreign Affairs jointly announced on March 7 new multifaceted support for Ukraine for its critical energy and security needs against Russia’s invasion, a news release has said.

Seven electrical transformers will be donated by Canada via the European Union (EU)’s Civil Protection Mechanism to facilitate Ukraine to power their homes as well as repair its power grid, which has been devastated by Russia’s attacks on civilian infrastructure.

In close coordination with the EU Canada is announcing an additional $3 million in funding to support mine action in Ukraine for its recovery and reconstruction efforts in Ukraine complementing Canada’s more than $32 million in funding already to support mine action in the country.

“Canada will continue to coordinate with its international partners to help Ukrainians fight back against the cruelty inflicted upon them by President Putin and his accomplices”, the news release has said.
