Mumbai/IBNS: Bollywood actresses Alia Bhatt and Kriti Sanon jointly bagged the National Awards this year for their lead roles in ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ and ‘Mimi’ respectively.
Post win, both the actresses congratulated each other on social media.
Now, Kriti has revealed that she had called up Alia over phone after the announcement of the National Awards.
Speaking to News 18, Kriti said, “I’ve always admired Alia as an actor and she was phenomenal in Gangubai Kathiawadi.
“We’ve both played the title role in our respective films and it’s a proud moment to be sharing this prestigious award with her! I called her up and both of us were just too excited.”
Recalling the moment when she heard the news, the popular actress, who has also ventured into film production, said, “I was actually in a meeting which was happening at my house itself when the awards were being announced, and my phone just started buzzing.
“I had to excuse myself from the meeting and that’s when I got to know that I had won. I was just extremely overwhelmed and requested them to just hold the meeting and I ran down to hug my parents.”
‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’, directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, is based on a brothel owner named Gangubai Kathiawadi.
Alia played the role of Gangubai in the film, which was released on Feb 25 this year.
