IBNS-CMEDIA: Adani Power Limited (APL), a thermal power generation company, on Monday said it has further improved its Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) performance, recording a score of 66 in the latest assessment by NSE Sustainability, up from 65 in FY26.

APL said it continues to rank higher than other major Indian thermal, mixed-fuel and integrated energy companies, reflecting its focus on ESG performance, sustainable growth and responsible business practices. The company remains in the “Aspiring” category.

NSE Sustainability, a subsidiary of NSE Indices and part of the National Stock Exchange of India Group, is a Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI)-registered ESG Rating Provider.

As part of its annual ESG assessment, NSE Sustainability evaluates 500 listed companies in India, providing investors and other stakeholders with an independent assessment of their ESG credentials and long-term value creation potential.

A higher ESG score can strengthen investor confidence in a company’s governance practices, resilience to emerging risks, attractiveness to long-term investors and ability to create sustainable value.

Adani Power said its ESG initiatives and operational performance are benchmarked against industry standards.

On the environmental front, the company has implemented low-emission technologies, including Ultra-Supercritical Units, to reduce its carbon footprint. It has also invested in continuous monitoring and corrective systems.

The company said it has prioritised water conservation and responsible waste management alongside energy-efficiency measures.

On the social front, Adani Power has expanded community development programmes focusing on education, healthcare and skill development.

Its initiatives include scholarship programmes for underprivileged students, health camps and livelihood-enhancement projects aimed at promoting inclusive growth.

On governance, the company said it exceeds several regulatory requirements under the applicable framework. The proportion of independent directors on its Nomination and Remuneration Committee is higher than the prescribed compliance requirements.

Similarly, the representation of independent directors on the Audit Committee is above statutory requirements, while the composition of the Risk Management Committee exceeds the prescribed threshold.

Adani Power has also implemented ESG standards for suppliers and contractors, with the aim of promoting responsible practices across its value chain.

In other recent assessments, APL received a score of 71 out of 100 in the Corporate Sustainability Assessment (CSA) by S&P Global and 4.3 out of 5.0 in the FTSE Russell ESG Rating.

For FY26, CareEdge ESG Rating awarded Adani Power a score of 80 out of 100, placing the company in the “Leadership” category and above the industry median by 35 per cent.

The company said these independent assessments reinforce its continued commitment to ESG and sustainable business practices. In other recent ratings, APL achieved an exceptional score of 71/100 in Corporate Sustainability Assessment (CSA) by S&P Global, and 4.3/5.0 by FTSE Russel ESG rating. For FY26, Care Edge ESG Rating scored APL at 80/100 (‘Leadership’ position), outperforming the industry median by 35%. These independent appraisals make APL remain committed to the cause of ESG.
