One person has been taken into custody by Ottawa police without incident following a vehicle banging the front gates of Parliament Hill early Wednesday morning,  the Ottawa Police Service said in a news release.

An unauthorized vehicle drove into the front gates on Wellington Street around 3:30 a.m. ET, but was prevented from entering because of security barriers

The damage to the gate was minimal, said the police.

According to the police, an investigation is ongoing and charges are pending.

In another bizarre incident downtown later Wednesday morning, an amphibious tour bus crashed into the fence of the prime minister’s unoccupied official residence at 24 Sussex Drive.
