Montreal/CMEDIA: Arrest of a 51-year-old man reportedly from Montreal on Monday by Canada’s federal police force followed his alleged death threats against Prime Minister Mark Carney.
Marc-André Porlier, 51, from Montréal, is charged with uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm to a person under section 264.1 of the Criminal Code, an RCMP news release said.
The alleged threats were made in an email sent to a number of unnamed individuals, including a senator, police said in the news release.
The accused also threatened “all Canadian police officers,” according to the charge sheet.
Having previously been found guilty of arson and mischief after he set fire to a church in Toronto in 2017, police confirmed that Porlier was on probation for those crimes, an RCMP spokesperson said.
Porlier appeared in court on Saturday, the news release said. The charges haven’t been proven in court.
