IBNS-CMEDIA: Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan, who was taken to a hospital following an order from the country’s Supreme Court, has been shifted back to prison after undergoing a medical check-up, media reports said on Friday.
Khan was taken to Shifa International Hospital for a medical examination following the apex court’s directive. According to local media reports, roads surrounding the hospital were cordoned off ahead of his arrival.
The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) had also urged its supporters not to gather outside the medical facility.
“Following mutual consultation between the leadership of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, Imran Khan’s family, and the core committee, it has been clearly and unanimously decided that after Imran Khan is transferred to Shaukat Khanum International Hospital, no party worker shall gather in front of the hospital,” PTI Khyber Pakhtunkhwa said in a post on X.
However, Geo News reported that Khan was taken to Shifa International Hospital, where doctors examined him and later deemed it safe for him to remain in custody.
According to the Pakistani news channel, the 73-year-old former cricketer-turned-politician was examined by a six-member team of specialist doctors.
Jail sources subsequently told Geo News that Khan was taken back to Adiala Jail and shifted to his cell after completing the medical examination.
Khan has been in prison since 2023 after being convicted in multiple cases, which his party has described as politically motivated.
The former Pakistan premier has faced a series of legal proceedings since he was removed from office in April 2022 following a no-confidence vote in Parliament.
