Guwahati/IBNS-CMEDIA: Team India suffered a major setback on Wednesday as South Africa completed a dominant 2–0 clean sweep on Indian soil, winning the second Test convincingly.
Chasing a mammoth target of 549 runs, India were bundled out for just 140 in their second innings, continuing their struggle against South Africa’s relentless bowling attack.
Overnight batters Sai Sudharsan and Kuldeep Yadav resumed the innings, but the Proteas bowlers kept striking at regular intervals, dismantling India’s batting order with ease and sealing the series without allowing the hosts any chance of recovery.
Ravindra Jadeja was the lone standout performer with a gritty 54, but the lack of support at the other end meant India’s innings folded quickly.
South African spinner Simon Harmer, who tormented India throughout the series, delivered another match-winning spell. After taking three wickets in the first innings, he ripped through India with six wickets in the second, finishing the series as one of the biggest game-changers.
The defeat marks one of India’s most disappointing home Test performances in recent years, raising questions about form, strategy, and team balance as they move forward in the long season ahead.
