Canada Estimates 7.3 Millions voted this year in Advance Polls

Toronto/CMEDIA: Estimated 7.3 million Canadians reportedly voted during advance polls this year, an increase from 2021’s 5.8 million votes, says Elections Canada.

Some polling stations in Ottawa witnessed long lines on Good Friday, during the first day of advance voting.

Based on its preliminary figures, Elections Canada said it markd a 25 percent increase from the 5.8 million electors who voted in advance during the 2021 federal election.

“We thank all election workers for their dedication and all voters for their patience,” Elections Canada said.

Some people in Ottawa said they waited up to two hours to cast a ballot last Friday.

With Two million votes being cast on the first day of advance polls, Elections Canada was prompted to make changes at some stations to accommodate demand

Advance polls were open on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday across the country.

Over the weekend, a spokesperson for Elections Canada said it’s too early to say whether the record-high turnout will lead to higher voter turnout for the election overall, but said it’s a sign that Canadians are aware and engaged.
