Ottawa: The unprecedented use of the Emergencies Act by the Federal government of Canada will have its third day of hearings on Monday.
It was after eight months after the government used the Emergencies Act to disperse protests that had deadlocked downtown Ottawa for weeks that the public inquiry was initiated
Hearings for the Public Order Emergency Commission is being held for six weeks, sitting every day from 9:30 a.m. ET until 6 p.m. or later, as required.
Canadians are expected to hear this week from City of Ottawa officials, including Mayor Jim Watson, and officials from the city’s police, as well as the Ontario Provincial Police.
Before testimony began in earnest on Friday, the hearings kicked off last week with the various parties including the federal government, some provinces, police, and convoy protest leaders, who introduced their positions. Ottawa residents, business owners, and city councilors were among the first to testify.
The public inquiry is being led by the former Ontario Superior Court justice Paul Rouleau, now a judge on the Ontario Court of Appeal.
