Charges have reportedly been laid against twelve teenagers in connection with a series of robberies near Canada’s Wonderland in Vaughan.
An investigation began in June after York police responded to a large volume of robberies in the area of Jane Street and Norwood Avenue, including at the amusement park.
Police said that in each incident, victims were swarmed and robbed by a large group of young people, and the incidents took place in the evening.
12 youth have been taken into custody, said the police, and charged with multiple offenses, including robbery, assault, mischief under $5,000, and causing a disturbance.
The suspects hail from various areas of the Greater Toronto Area and are between the ages of 13 and 17 and, cannot be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
The arrests were made as part of “Operation Beehave,” which is an investigation launched over the Canada Day long weekend in which police increased their presence in the areas where the robberies took place.
No swarmings were reported since the start of ‘Operation Beehave’ and the Police reportedly said that they would continue with these efforts.
The suspects being all teenagers, investigators are urging parents to speak with their children consequences of participating in criminal activity as well as about their personal safety.
Anyone with information is being asked to contact the police or anonymously reach out to Crime Stoppers.
