Edmonton/CMEDIA: The man reportedly convicted of a string of Alberta Avenue arsons in 2021 and 2022 has been sentenced to 12 years in prison minus time served for pre-trial custody.
Darcy Willier was found to be guilty of three counts of arson with disregard for human life, three counts of arson causing property damage and six counts of possession of firearms.
With a lengthy criminal record dating back to 2001, the 42-year-old man has gang ties.
During Friday’s sentencing hearing, Victim impact statements from multiple people were read.
Willier, who has a lengthy criminal record, was called by the Crown to be sentenced to 20 years in prison, as well as an order that he must serve half of his sentence before being eligible for release.
The Crown also said Willier showed no remorse and is still a danger to the community.
Being paid to commit the arson, he noted that Willier had told undercover officers he was happy to continue starting fires.
Estimated damage to the properties is at $2.25 million.
