Dubai/IBNS: It is common to find the Indian expatriate community settled across the globe holding their traditional festivals in their adopted land.

The Bengali community in Dubai likewise recently gathered to unveil ‘Sharadotsav’, the annual autumn festival, with ‘chandipath’ by Shubo Bandopadhyay and the rendition of Mahalaya songs under the direction of Somdatta Basu.

President of the organizing committee, Madhusudan Dutta Chowdhury, delivered the welcome address and handed over the baton to Surupa and Manas, representatives of the younger generation, to conduct the programme.

This was followed by children, aged between five and ten years, presenting a dramatized version of Tagore’s poem ‘Pujar Shaaj’, under the direction of Abhijit Ghosh.

They also performed a dance number set to the song ‘Gauri Elo’, which was choreographed by Somdatta Mukherjee and conceptualised by Esha Sengupta.

The event concluded with a dance medley themed on ‘Amar Durga’ – a poem penned by poet Mallika Sengupta – and on the lyrical ‘Aye Giri Nandini’.

It was led by Somdatta Basu (songs), Somdatta De Mukherjee (dance and direction), and Esha Sengupta (recitation and programme planning).
