An announcement has been made earlier this week by Vic Fedeli, Minister of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade, in the U.K. at the Farnborough International Airshow, where he led a delegation to promote the province’s strengths in aerospace technology, supporting investment of $21.4 million by Cyclone Manufacturing, a leading supplier of aerospace components and sub-assemblies.
The Ontario government hosted a pavilion at the airshow showcasing 10 companies and one municipality where Fedeli presented Ontario as a gateway for investment, innovation, and advanced manufacturing in North America.
The province is investing $1.5 million through the Advanced Manufacturing and Innovation Competitiveness stream of Ontario’s Regional Development Program to support Cyclone’s investment.
While enabling the company to undertake processing work that is currently performed outside of Canada, the project will also create 60 new jobs and provide upskilling for 100 employees at Cyclone’s four facilities in Mississauga and Milton.
“Ontario is a place where global aerospace giants expand their operations and homegrown businesses produce quality parts and innovative services…proud to support this tremendous investment by Cyclone …strengthen Ontario’s aerospace manufacturing capacity…support local businesses and promote Ontario’s leading industries on the world stage to help create good jobs at home,” said Fedeli in the news release.
Cyclone Manufacturing is a provider of complex aerostructures and structural assemblies for major aerospace companies around the world.
“Cyclone’s partnership with the Government of Ontario…remain a global leader in aerospace manufacturing…grateful to Minister Fedeli and the Ministry of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade for their dedication to Ontario’s aerospace sector and the thousands of people it employs across this province,” said Robert Sochaj, Cyclone’s Vice President.
Being a key component of Ontario’s advanced manufacturing sector, Aerospace directly employs more than 21,500 people across more than 200 companies, and an additional 17,200 indirectly.
Ontario’s aerospace industry — home to a globally renowned landing-gear cluster, as well as major global aerospace companies — is the second largest in Canada representing close to a quarter of all Canadian activity.
Among the industry’s foremost annual events, the Farnborough International Airshow provided an opportunity for Ontario to demonstrate that is open for business and open for jobs.
Ontario companies’ connections with potential customers from around the world promote help promote Ontario’s key strengths in aircraft final assembly, avionics, aerostructures and landing gear, maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO), engines, satellites, and spacecraft.
