Toronto/CMEDIA: The following statement was released today on International Women’s Day by Charmaine Williams, Associate Minister of Women’s Social and Economic Opportunity.
“On International Women’s Day we celebrate the contribution of women across Ontario and acknowledge the work that lies ahead towards achieving full gender equity.
The contributions of women are essential to our province’s progress and success, whether that’s by serving as high-profile executives, running their own businesses, working in the skilled trades, or supporting vital sectors such as early childhood education, personal support work and nursing, and supporting their families.
The United Nations theme this year is “DigitALL: Innovation and technology for gender equality” in recognition of the women and girls who are championing the advancement of transformative technology and digital education.
Ontario is making changes to encourage more women to enter technology training and careers. Achieving greater gender equity in every sector helps boost innovation and strengthens our economy.
We are helping women across the province to thrive everywhere — at home, at work and in their communities. We are also helping more women participate in the workforce and achieve financial independence by making workplaces safer for women, and by removing barriers so that more women can excel in business, leadership roles, as entrepreneurs, and in sectors where the need is greatest.
Through investments in programs like Investing in Women’s Futures, we are offering employment and training supports that help women, racialized individuals, Indigenous people, youth, and people with disabilities enter and re-enter the workforce, including connecting women with career pathways to entrepreneurship to create more women-led businesses.
On International Women’s Day, I encourage everyone to take a moment to reflect on the important achievements of women, and to continue advocating for gender equity in all aspects of life in Ontario.
Because when women succeed, Ontario succeeds.”
